TravelPilot NX DVD Map Update Question

Hi all,

I have a 2007 Ford S-MAX with the TravelPilot NX DVD edition Sat Nav. Inside it has a Blaupunkt 2008 Update 2.0 DVD. I've upgraded the firmware to 5.3 and are continuing to use the 2008 DVD in there at the moment.

I went to purchase this item and the seller is now refusing to ship on the grounds it's incompatible with my car. I gave him my VIN number to check. His listing shows a picture of the NX SD version and a 2003 edition but his item description explains it's a 2014 DVD edition for the TravelPilot NX. I assume therefore the picture is simply a mistake. The description fits perfectly with what I need and I believe the fact it states it's for a Mondeo is not relevant. The crucial part is that it's a DVD for a Ford TravelPilot NX system.

Also, would I have difficulty in going straight from 2008 -> 2014 DVD. I read some problems with folk doing a 2007 DVD to 2014 and they suggested a 2009 DVD. I don't have access to a 2009 unfortunately.

Have I perhaps had a lucky escape here ?

Thoughts ?

Careful.

You need to remove the volume control button (that will just pull off) and then remove the cover as well. The cover will come off easily. Use a plastic object like a small ruler if necessary. Don't use a screwdriver or you might damage something.

You will then see where the DVD will eject from.

Any other questions, give me a shout. Good luck.

Thanks Robin

Worked a dream 2008 up to 2013 maps

5 minute job

The softesare update launched itself when i put in the key code .

Thanks again

Now I need to go elswhere in the site as i think the MPG on my 2008 1.8 is 20% worse than a 2.0 2008 model

I do use Run flats on this one that could be the reason .

No. The Ford parts supplier on eBay claimed it wouldn't so they refused to ship the product and refunded my money. I bought the 2013 from another supplier Navstoremap and that arrive and all that worked just fine.

I believe the supplier was wrong but I will never really know for sure where the 2014 would work too. I am pretty certain it would have been fine.

I suspect the Ford eCAT/eTIS system told them it wasn't compatible and there can always be mistakes in this side of things.

Robin I've just done a 5.3 update on my NX when I try to load my tomtom 2014 it tries to load and then shuts down, did this happen with you?
No. Updated to 5.3 without issue but I used my 2008 Update 2 disk for week or so first.

I didn't have the opportunity to try the 2014 version for the reasons I explained in another post. Perhaps I had a lucky escape and the supplier of the 2014 version were correct ?

I don't think so though. I cannot believe the 2014 version would not work yet the 2013 works just fine.

Have you tried repeating the upgrade putting the old version DVD in the system and letting the Nav software itself update. What version of maps disk do you have ?

I assume you've checked the 2014 disk for observation signs of any scratches, dust or dirty marks etc ?

The 2008 DVD (update 2) should be absolutely fine with the 5.3 firmware. It worked fine for me. I would repeat the process starting with the CD ISO image of the 5.3, let the system re-load the NX firmware again (if that's possible) and ensure you insert the 2008 DVD immediately after the process. Make sure that all works fine before you try the 2014 disk ?

Sure. I have 3 Disks

1 x 2008 DVD (containing the maps)

1 x 2013 DVD (containing the 2013 updated TomTom maps)

1 x TravelPilot NX 5.3 CD (to upgrade the firmware of the NX)

I can explain how to create the special TravelPilot NX 5.3 firmware upgrade CD from the Internet (free of charge).

This is what I think you should try, upgrading to 5.3 using the special CD. I am suspecting you didn't upgrade to 5.3 yourself ?????? otherwise you would have created this CD and have it handy. This could explain why you are perhaps finding what I am saying a bit confusing ?

I am a little concerned you were not able to put the 2008 MAPS DVD back in after the update to 5.3 and everything work just fine. I think you need to do this to activate the device with an original Ford Maps DVD etc... This was the process by which is worked for me. I was able to do this without issue and it worked just fine.

However there are people on the Internet saying 5.3 isn't compatible with official Ford MAP DVD's less than the 2009 version but my experience suggested this is false.

Is the 2008 DVD properly clean with no marks or scratches. It should be absolutely shiny and no marks. I think your 2008 DVD is not reading properly because it should always be able to read a simple version number on it.

I need to check those version numbers in your screenshot with my car (which isn't here at the moment). It should be back in 20mins. I will let you know what I see.

If all else fails, I would start again and get hold of the older firmware and downgrade and repeat the process carefully, ensuring after 5.3 you insert the 2008 DVD before the 2014 DVD.

When you did the 5.3 upgrade process for the 1st time and it completely finished. You then inserted the 2008 DVD right and did it prompt you to 'downgrade' ?

You have to let it 'downgrade'. It's not downgrading the firmware but the Nav software.

OR did it simply not read the versions on the DVD like your screenshot shows ?

I want to make sure you did not miss this important step. You must let the system downgrade the Nav Software after the 5.3 when you use the 2008 DVD first
