There were rumours Ford was going to produce a 170 bhp version of the 1.0 Ecoboost. What happened? There were also plans for a twin sequential turbo set up as well.
Would a turbo/supercharged 1.0 Ecoboost engine have better economy and lower emissions than the 1.6 160 bhp engine?
I did say "isn't", not wasn't, the 1.6 Ecoboost has been replaced by a 1.5 Ecoboost. Exact same power levels but lower emissions which makes the OP's statement pointless. The replacement for the current 1.5 is already in development.
Usually, a supercharger worsens fuel economy, unless you do something pretty clever (for example, a variable speed drive to the supercharger). There can still be a case for it, if you can't fit a bigger engine (for example, if the bigger engine has more cylinders, or is pretty heavy, but the supercharger would normally add more weight than a bigger variant of the same engine).
Old new stock. They are just vehicles already built. You were talking about a 170bhp 1.0 Ecoboost engine to replace a 1.6 which as it has already been replaced with a more economical and lower emission engine.
Blimey some banter eh kev? Personally I'd love to see a 170 horse 1.0 3 cylinder fiesta. I've had a go in a 125 horse one and the grin factor was big.
Mind you what's in the ST as I'm not aufeit with the range.
Thanks for that Neil, but i am already aware of and seen that road legal racing car powered by a 205 PS 1.0 Ecoboost over 2 years ago. My point was simply about the current power output of the 1.0 Ecoboost fitted to the Fiesta in relation to the ST.

I know . They actually got 250PS out of it but in the interests of reliability and also stopping the back end of the Formula Ford stepping out, they backed it off. They still have concerns at reliability at 200PS and are unwilling to let the car loose on Top Gear.
The next generation of the 1.0 Ecoboost is in early stages of development. The bench mark is the same as the current engine, but with improved with economy and emissions. If a few of the changes work and pass the money mens approval, I reckon the 125PS engine could possibly be seeing about 10% more torque, not sure about PS levels though.
The latest F1 cars with the 1.6 litre turbocharged V6 engines are pushing 600 HP. That's a mind blowing 375 horse per litre. Disregard reliability tho lol.
Just to change from 4 wheels to 2. Saw a TV show showing the new kawasaki H2R. Multiple rolling road tests and averaging 320 bhp. A 1 litre supercharged ultra mean machine.
Bye bye ALL super and hyper cars ................ yehaaa
Try keeping the front wheel down on that! Its hard enough on my CB1000R with a mere 125bhp (fireblade engine retuned for torque rather than revs)
