So, after having my EGR blank in place for about a month and a half I've decided to temporarily remove it to collect some more data from Torque pro, for example the difference between fuel consumption at idle/low throttle due to pumping losses being decreased with the EGR blank removed, and the different in exhaust temperatures when on the motorway.
All I can say is holy crap. I'm not leaving it off for very long. I don't want that stuff all in my intake, all over the valves, the cylinders and worst of all in the oil.
I recently changed the glow plugs and at the same cleaned the throttle body and intake manifold.
In my 2.2 l, the EGR inlet to the throttle body comes from the transmission side. The intake was significantly dirtier on the timing belt side cylinders, and there was approx. 5 mm thick layers of gunk on the intake manifold walls.
The ducts in the cylinder head were not as dirty and the valves appeared to be quite clean. I believe that valves get hot enough so that soot burns away.
Sorry to jump in but what engines do you have. I want to blank mine. I have a euro4 2.2 and the egr is around the back of the engine. Could you tell me where you got the plate from as I have been looking in eBay but can't seam to find one that's right for the engine.

Oh yeah doh! I'm off from tomorrow so I'll have a look at the egr.
