Recode Injectors ?

I will be calling my local main dealer to arrange for the software update in the hope of curing the warm start issue I have inherited in my recently purchased 56plate estate.

Reading through all the other posts on this subject it has been mentioned many times about having the injectors recoded..

So my question is would there an advantage having mine recoded if they seem to be operating OK (or at least I think they are OK)?

I don't think recoding will fix the warm start issue. You might be able to avoid the s/w upgrade if you can increase the speed of starter motor cranking. (New battery? Clean the starter pinion?)

I first got the problem after having a new flywheel fitted which probably slowed the cranking speed until the ring gear bedded in. When it did happen it would usually start normally if I just switched off and re-started.

The other fix is new injectors.

Hi Peter .. sorry I should have explained myself in more detail ..

My car has the warm start issue that quite a few people have suffered. Starts on the button when cold but when warm it takes two turnovers to fire up, idles at around 500 rpm for a few seconds than runs great.

I will be ringing main dealer sometime in the week to arrange software update to hopefully fix this and I was asking you guys if I should request the dealer to recode injectors as others have had done while its hooked up to diagnostics, even if my injectors seem to be operating fine (I think!).

Thanx for replying and for any confusion caused ...

If the injectors are working fine then recoding wont do anything other than reset the

fuelling so it may run a bit worse for a while.

Recoding an injector may give you a short term fix if you have a fault that wont go away.

Hi, do let us know how you get on. There's been a few reports on TF of Ford main dealers with upgraded Ford diagnostic systems not being able to connect to the ecu of mk3s, would like to know if it's just down to inexperienced technicians or a real issue.

Update on my issue ....

spoke to main dealer here in Swansea, Days Ford, for estimate on the pcm update .... lady came back with a price of £130 + vat !!!.

After a bit of research I managed to find a independant Ford dealer with IDS.

They can do the update for only £40 + vat (£48).

Booked it in and 2 hours later they rang me to say update was sucessfull with no problems. The car starts first time now in every situation, hot or cold ... me is one happy chappy ...

I also had a spare key made and programmed for £50 ...

The Independant Ford garage is Continental garage in Abercrave nr Swansea .. good service with no BS....

Brilliant news! Thanks for the update....VERY interesting.....good job they still have their IDS kit. The quotes I got were for 30mins labour, so certainly didn't rip you off.
