Hi members,

Hope somebody can help with the problem I have with my 2008 Mondeo Titanium X air conditioning system. I have had the system checked out by a local Independant specialist and he cannot get it to work through the cabin controls although the compressor works and the system is pressurised when he has connected power directly to the pump. He tells me it is a software problem and he does not have the information available from Ford to highlight the fault. Can anybody advise me please as to the best way to proceed.

Thanks in anticipation

I got this from another member on here, apart from this it's a Ford trip I guess

The climate control and heating system features an on-board diagnosis function which can detect and store both current permanent faults as well as intermittent faults which have occurred during normal operation of the vehicle. It is also possible to read out these faults via the display on the climate control assembly. To read out the fault memory, the ignition key must be turned to the "ON" position and the battery voltage must be between 9 V and 16 V.

Activating the on-board diagnosis function

At the climate control assembly, PRESS the "OFF" and "FOOTWELL" buttons simultaneously for exactly 2 seconds, then PRESS "AUTO" within 1.5 seconds. The on-board diagnosis which then starts lasts a few seconds. An animated display appears in the display of the climate control assembly during this time. Any faults found are displayed on both displays of the climate control assembly in the form of trouble codes.

Example: Left-hand display shows "90", right-hand display shows "B3", i.e. the trouble code read out is 90B3 = short in circuit for right-hand center vents air outlet temperature sensor (short to ground).

The following table gives information on the possible DTCs and their corresponding meanings. By PRESSING the "DEFROST" button, the fault memory is cleared and diagnosis mode is ended. To end the diagnostic mode without clearing the DTCs, PRESS any other button on the climate control assembly.

Reading out of stored faults

At the climate control assembly, PRESS the "OFF" and "FOOTWELL" buttons simultaneously for exactly 2 seconds, then PRESS "HEAD AREA" within 1.5 seconds. Any stored faults are shown on the display of the climate control assembly and should be noted for safety reasons. By PRESSING the "DEFROST" button, the fault memory is cleared and diagnosis mode is ended. To end the diagnostic mode without clearing the DTCs, PRESS any other operating button on the climate control assembly.

Reading out the software version

At the climate control assembly, PRESS the "OFF" and "FOOTWELL" buttons simultaneously for exactly 2 seconds, then PRESS "A/C" within 1.5 seconds. The software version is shown on the display of the climate control assembly. The output mode can be exited by PRESSING any button on the climate control assembly.

Did you actually get the diagnostic procedure started? Have you thought about trying another cc module?

#6 ·
No I mean the heating controls.

Here is a video of the procedure

#8 ·
No I don't think so.

#9 ·
To get the climate control diagnostics mode on the DVD satnav system, press and hold the MENU and NAV buttons simultaneously and it will enter the diagnostics menu. From here, you can choose the climate control diagnostics. Sorry if it's a bit late!

Thanks Ben, much appreciated

I have entered the display as you detailed but can't seem to read off the codes. I have been in to section saying Climate and it gives some options all of which I have pressed. I get 0xf077 and 0x46f but can't read what they mean from the info I was given by a member.

Any ideas?

Regards

I'm not sure to be honest, Nagahara. I only mentioned it as it was an option I saw while ejecting the sat nav DVD!

I should think the Blaupunkt unit outputs different climate control codes.

It'll probably be a case of hooking it up to IDS to read the codes if you can't find the descriptions for the Blaupunkt codes.

I have the same set up as the video and have the fault codes 9081, 9083 and 9086. I can see the relation I have to the actual problem I'm having from the codes, basically flaps not fully closing on one side allowing warm air to mix with cold and not getting the extra bite from having the temp set at "LO". How do I carry out these "Pinpoint" tests?

#16 ·
Do you have an issue? What climate control do you have?

#18 ·
Your visit to have it recharged was obviously useless, seek out a second opinion, the controls should be the last part to fail.

#19 ·
Like Simmy G, mine goes through the diagnostic but finishes with the whole display lit up like a christmas tree. So this apparently means no faults, but my cooling is distinctly limp. When dialling the temperature down to "LO" in any other car (and I'm sure mine used to) the fan ramps up to full speed to try and give maximum cooling but lately the fan stays at a medium speed and doesn't do much cooling at all.

I only had a new condensor and recharge less than a year ago and I leave it in "AUTO" all year round so no risk of seals drying out.

Mine is the same. Had the air con fixed but the car does not seem to sense high temperature within the car on hot days by increasing the fan speed when the temp is set to Lo. It usually is on 5 setting and should be flat out at 7.

I would like to know what is wrong, can anybody help as my local air conditioning expert has not got the appropriate software to analyse the problem

Hi,

I seem to have similar issues with the A/C as some of the posters above. I have a 2008 diesel Mondeo and in 2011 and 2012 I had the system tested(passed) and regassed in a local ford dealer. Then last year I just had it gassed again. I try to use it occasionally during the winter to prevent seals drying out etc. To be honest, I have the car from when it was one year old and the A/C was never as good as previous cars I have had. Anyhow it seems to be out of gas again. I tried the procedure to get codes from the climate control, and I got, reading from left to right, 77F0 and 6F04. A poster on this discussion had F077 and 046F. Can anyone give me some info on these codes. Am I reading them correctly?. I want to dig in a bit before I get it regassed again.

Many thanks!

Hi,

Thanks DandM for the link above. After taking a closer look today, the codes/numbers I was reading from the display are the software version, I was using the AC on button instead of the auto button. when I select the auto button, it runs thru a diagnostics check(i presume) and comes back with all display options highlighted on the screen, but sits at that. It doesn't display any codes so I presume all is ok?

I have discovered that when I turn on the AC, there is no click from the compressor, or the engine cooling fan does not come on. The system, I presume must be out of gas, not enough pressure to start up?? No code when I enter the diagnostics via the dash( holding OK button and ignition at position 2). My handheld unit doesn't read codes either but I think I need something better to read any codes that might be there.

Is it possible to remove what Gas is left in the system, and have it loaded with dye only, so that I can check for leaks?

Thanks
