Rusty exhaust and connection towards catalytic converter

I looked under the car the other day and noticed the exhaust does not look too good, with rust all over. I took a closer look to assess how easy it us to remedy and discovered the connector between the exhaust pipe and the bit before the flex which goes towards the catalytic converter is badly rusty and won't survive dismantling.

Is it easy to replace this as well?

Look at the picture I took below to see what I mean:

Hi m8. I don't know about how easy it would be to replace that section of your exhaust but best bet is to get it done at a reputable exhaust fitters. In the meantime tho. To prolong the pipes life a bit get a rag and dampen it with clean engine oil and rub all over the pipes, better when they're warm. I'm assuming your car is petrol?

Is it the part on the pipe section or the flexi section? If flexi then might need a whole new piece... At least that's what a lot pf places will want to sell you. If on the pipe someone could weld a new one on easily though they'd again want to sell you a centre section, which would last longer.

Taz raises a good poi t about petrol or diesel. Diesel exhausts last lo get mainly due to the car not producing sulphuric acid as a by product. Petrol exhausts of aftermarket origin can sometimes only last a few years it most diesel pipes last a lot longer. My car is quite rusty on stuff like suspension parts etc due to last owner keeping a stash of mud on the underside. Exhaust is I top shape though, apart from the bolts looking a bit like that be hard to remove etc.

Surface rust is fine though on a pipe. If you're worried get some wire wool, pit on overalls a mask and glasses then use wire wool. Engine oil is fine to use but be careful how much you use and bear in mind it gets hot and may smell a little bit. When I've tidied up pipes I use manifold paint, take it off the hangers and spray a thin layer on after using wire wool. Looks mint for ages then.

if its at the flexi this is all one piece going to the cat so will not be cheap but be careful what you get as have already been there with a garage fitting this part cost me £600 and ever since kept triggering the lamba sensors I replaced them assuming it wouldn't be the cat but after having it all tested it was so if looking at that part I would recommend looking at ford they are def not cheap for that part but the amount I spent getting this problem sorted would have been cheaper in the long run(I ended getting it from a breakers on a low milage car all sorted now)
