hi guys ive had a remap and decat and am wondering what if any advantages are of taking the back box off apart from a better sound. better performance?mpg? and what pipe do i put on? just cut the box of and weld on a straight pipe or is there a pipe that goes straight on

cheers

Advantages maybe a better sound. Disadvantages an actual drop in power.

You want a Cat. or at least one exhaust box in there somewhere.

Get the later centre pipe or STTDCI pipe (no box). Rear section will need to be made

or bodged :)

I'd love to see a rolling road of with and without, so if you do want a straight pipe, 80 quid will let you know if there are any losses or gains.

Back in the early 90s a catalyst car was 10+hp down on a non catalyst model. They used to sell them with or without at your option. There was always a back box or baffle box somewhere though.

Diesels don't produce any appreciable quantities of sulphuric acid, so a diesel back box should last a good long time. Could always get an aftermarket stainless one with custom tips.

A powerflow or similar complete exhaust is also an option. Note that they are only as good as the place that makes them because powerflow is a franchise. I've seen ones welded pretty bad or messy and I've seen ones that look great.

If you search the rolling road days they had on here there is info on the lack of

any exhaust boxes actually losing power.

Exhausts appear to be a bit of a black art. Sometimes changes that on paper work

dont in practice.

Old enough to remember megaphone exhausts? Trumpets on carbs?

Won't altering the exhaust system "after" having a remap affect the benefits the remap gave.

Depends if it's a custom map or a generic one. If generic it wouldn't make any difference because the same files would be loaded either way.

If it were a custom rolling road map, it would effect things. Also if there were a choice of two generic maps, one for a stock exhaust and one for an altered one, you'd then be running a less than optimal map.
