hi guys ive had a remap and decat and am wondering what if any advantages are of taking the back box off apart from a better sound. better performance?mpg? and what pipe do i put on? just cut the box of and weld on a straight pipe or is there a pipe that goes straight on
I'd love to see a rolling road of with and without, so if you do want a straight pipe, 80 quid will let you know if there are any losses or gains.
Back in the early 90s a catalyst car was 10+hp down on a non catalyst model. They used to sell them with or without at your option. There was always a back box or baffle box somewhere though.
Diesels don't produce any appreciable quantities of sulphuric acid, so a diesel back box should last a good long time. Could always get an aftermarket stainless one with custom tips.
A powerflow or similar complete exhaust is also an option. Note that they are only as good as the place that makes them because powerflow is a franchise. I've seen ones welded pretty bad or messy and I've seen ones that look great.
Depends if it's a custom map or a generic one. If generic it wouldn't make any difference because the same files would be loaded either way.
If it were a custom rolling road map, it would effect things. Also if there were a choice of two generic maps, one for a stock exhaust and one for an altered one, you'd then be running a less than optimal map.
