My 2012 titanium x has 215 50 17 fitted from new so I would assume they would fit yours without any problem

Another option is 225/45/17 which is what I am running on my MK4. I found running 225 was slightly cheaper than 215 and I also have the added benefit of a wider footprint with the road..........As I keep getting told an extra 2cm makes all the difference!

What might foul on the callipers are the wheels - not really the tyres - so you only need to worry about getting the wheels right to avoid fouling. Any wheels fitted to a Mondy of the same age as yours ought to work (possible exception - anything fitted to the 2.5, 5 cylinder variants, which are the only ones with different callipers - but you won't want that anyway).

I've got a Ghia with 235/45/17s, and I'm pretty much happy with it, but it has the softer springs of a non-sports version, and it sounds like your priorities may be different from mine, so YMMV. Do check on availability of tyres and prices before you decide, though. As Gav points out, prices and availability often seem to make little sense.

Are you sure they're different calipers?

When i changed my front discs and pads, Fordparts didn't ask me for engine size or chassis no to ensure i got the right part and the parts fit correctly.

Mondeo 2.5T Tit X 2008, in panther black, sportspack and privacy glass. Never seem another model like it in my area.

Like you I fitted the winter tyres on smaller wheels.  Must say that they run great and so much lighter than the heavier 235/45 R17.  I vaguely remember weighing them and tyre and wheel for 16s weighed 16 kg and for the 17s around 24 kg.  Straight away I got 5 MPG more.  I'm considering using 205/55 R16 for summer tyres as they are cheaper and save fuel too.

I bought the alloys from Ebay and they were Jag X type alloys but are fine for winter use.
