That's the next job for me to do!

I presume I just get a new bolt from Ford?

When I do it, I'll take some pics.

It was only last week I was thinking the steering was not as it used to be, checked all tyre pressures, fluid etc etc, so I am guessing this is another thing on the list to be done.

My 2001 V6 is the same.
Could it just need greasing?

I took it to a Ford dealership on Friday who carried out the TSB - but still exactly the same! At least they did not try and charge me!! They say its the rack and want close to £800 for one!!

Just did the job, the steering is so much smoother, although there's a really small 'notch' at the centre point of the wheel.

The replacement bolt has a FINIS code of 6866165 and has a T40 (torx) head on it. The old bolt took a 8 or 10mm socket.

I've taken some photos which I think will help.

SNAP! I have just bought a 2004 mondeo and the steering seems to stick when facing straight but when its past the centre point the steering seems fine. Can get a bit nervy when you only want to make slight adjustments to the steering and it feels tight. Could this just need re-greasing as well?

Yes, exactly how mine behaved. Now almost sorted :). I used Silicone Grease from a spray can. I wish I'd bought some in a tube now, it may have cured it completely.

Well worth doing though!

Hi,
Any instances of this on MK2s ? Seems to be what I've got, although my steering pulls to the left as well. I don't want to put another rack on only to find some grease would have fixed it!
Cheers,
Gavin :)
