Before I use heat on the Crank pulley bolt, just like others to confirm that its not a left handed thread.

Thats for a 1997 1.8 Zetec Silvertop

TIA

Wish I hadnt started now!

Also is it safe to use heat from a butane torch? :kaffeetrinker_2:

Some have said you risk damaging a seal - any comments on this.

Heat up for 3 minutes or so ok?

hi buddy, u will be fine with using heat on the crank bolt, all u want to hit as the crank bolt itself nothing else, if you're worried about the seal just buy another one, its cheap and u should really replace the seal on the timing cover, but u will be fine just use a bit of heat on there from the butane torch and heat it up so that it helps you with removing it, u might get away with out heating it, but best to undo it with a impact gun like the ones u use in your ciggarette lighter port, good luck with it :)

Thanks Fred. The question was put after my first attempt which was with a breaker bar and no heat.

The "elasticity" in the crank bolt was amazing.
Will try heat next and a smile I hope.
Thanks again!

Standard thread and not that tight - no Loctite either.
Bought new 1999 2L LX Estate in Forest Green 61000 miles, original apart from discs all round and a/c condenser. And cam kit.

Bought new 2000 2L GLX Estate in Ampero Blue, 162000 miles, had new lower arms, sump, a/c condenser, discs all round. And cam kit.
