Rather than jump onto percy's thread, heres my past capris, I've had a capri in my collection in one shape or other for 20 years!
Mostly scanned in photos I'm afraid as no digital cameras in the early 90s :}
First one was a Fjord Blue 2.0S, complete with new Ford wings and sprayed with rattle cans, Gen Ford wings are worth about £500 these days!

Posted Image

Next was a black 2.0S which was ones of the final facelift S models with the 5 speed box and nicer interior, unfortunatley a bus pulled out on me and it was written off! Strange thing is someone bought the shell off me and now the reg is on a 2.8i which is still taxed? Ringer or private reg?

Next was the love of my late teens/ early 20s a titan blue over stratos silver early 2.8 injection, 4 speed model with chequered Recaro trim, the one car I do regret selling, spent thousands on it then eventually traded it in against a nearly new BMW (worst car I've ever owned) worse still the next owner basically stripped it for spares as there was that many uprated/ brand new parts and scrapped it :(

Posted Image

Next up was a 1.6 Laser which I bought as something to restore one Summer when I was bored, this was stripped back to a bare shell then rebuilt with everything new down to the nuts and bolts, engine was swapped for a 2.0 and the car had a full respray, then about the third time I drove it I hit a patch of ice on a country road and smashed it up  I was so gutted I accepted an offer from a mate to buy it for a fraction of what it was worth in parts, I never even got a decent photo of it after the respray, again a DVLA check shows its probably no longer on the road.

Next up was a nice 5 speed 2.8 injection, with the unusual glacier blue over caspian blue colour scheme (no thats not underseal around the bottom :} )
I used it as a daily driver for a while then traded it in for my first RS Turbo, its still on the road today which is good.

So that brings me to the Capri I still have today, my 1987 Diamond white 2.8 Injection Special, owned it since the late 90s and has been fully restored to original condition (except for a couple of choice engine mods including a gorgeous sounding twin 3" Magnex exhaust :D )

Yes she was, within the first day of me trading her in at the BMW dealer, one of the mechanics had bought it and started stripping the car, it had parts like brand new Bilstein Group 4 suspension all round which would be worth an absolute fortune these days, I was into my ICE then and it had a full Infinity stereo/ speaker set up with amps mounted in a custom boot build and an acoustic rear shelf, god knows what was going through my mind when I let her go, think I'd just taken the car as far as I could and wanted a new challenge :(

As stated, very nice :L

I've owned a few Capri's myself,from the mk 1 3.0 v6 to the mk 2, 1.3! (iirc,did they do a 1.3 or was the smallest a 1.6??!!)

Anyway, good nostalgia trip, even the wheels, from 'S' wheels,to pepperpots to lazers etc!

I had Cortinas as well, the capri's looked faster, but their tail end was vicious on a wet road if you didn't know how to handle one ;)

Hmm, I knew a lot of dodgy people in my youth...and that does indeed sound like a perfect candidate for a ringer..'altering the details' - it was Very common back then... ;)
mk 1, 1.8 lx *weighed in for 214 notes* did a sterling job as the family hack.R.I.P. sniff

Steve

This thread brought back fond memories of two Capris which I owned long ago. The first was a black Capri 2000GT V4 automatic which I owned in the early eighties. The inside was completely trimmed in red velour and looked like a compact, seedy nightclub. Apart from the freakish interior, the other lasting memory of this car was the reliability of it starting - within the first second whatever the weather. Can't remember what happened to it. Another thing altogether was an orange Capri MKII 1600. The main memory of this was the frequency with which it was stolen! The door catches were a joke, and if the car was locked, all you had to do was firmy grip the handle, rattle the door up and down, and it popped open. I once looked at the door catch mechanism - it was riveted together, worn generally and impossible to repair - so I put it back in.

The first time it went missing was near the "Union Inn" in Levenshulme - it turned up a short distance away unharmed. The second time it went missing was from outside my house. The police called early in the morning and asked me if I owned a Capri - it had been driven into the front corner of a concrete garage - so that was that. The scrapyard man complimented the car on its rare rot-free tailgate as he took it away.

Fords owned so far - Cortina Mk 2, Zephyr 4 mark 4, Capri 2000GT V4 auto, Capri MkII, Cortina Mk 4 1600 estate, Mondeo Mk 1 2000 Ghia X.

Love the 2.8i's and the black 2.0s!

Real shame that bloke stripped and scrapped a good one.

I'm pretty sure there was a 1.3 yes.

I know alot of capri's were ringers back in the day, a few i looked at buying had loose vin plates, dodgy locks/ignition and no steering lock working lol
[smaller]Mk1 2.0 Ghia - Supercharged NOS etc
