I bought a saph without a rear diff.
I sourced a diff with drive shafts.
I jacked the car up today ready to jack the diff into place.
I then noticed the driveshafts that are in place are all beafed up thicker,
The bolts going into the diff were wider.
The question is what diff was the lad running.
As the one he had must of had larger bolt holes.
There must be a obvious answer but as its my first saph i need informing.

Also what is the hub socket that is required so i can change the drive shafts back to standard.
Unless i could have the diff holes widened down the machine engineers.
I might have the holes widened ,depends on the replies to this thread.

Any diff from a sierra or granada will fit and the casing looks the same but it doesn't mean its a cossy one, you could of been sold a duffer! First check its an LSD by holding the propshaft flange and turn one hub it should be really hard to turn and the other hub should turn in the same not the opposite direction, if it turns easily and the other hub turns the opposite way its not an LSD, then if it has the little metal tag still attached check the first digits are '83 BG' this identifies a 7" (granada) or 7.5" rear wheel drive cossy diff, now look at the top front mounting, if it is drilled for one long bolt its a granada diff or if for 2 seperate bolts from either side its a cossy one, also measure the hub flanges they should be 108mm in diameter, if they aren't its not a cossy LSD diff.

The hub nut socket size is 41mm.

Nice one will order my socket now.
Also i will try the method out at weekend.
I first have to measure the diff to make sure it is 7.5.
I am sure it is a cossie diff.

I measured the top mount it is 7" .
I held the prop n turned the drive shaft .It was very difficult to turn.The other side was as well.
The bloke said he went of the part number .
The tag is difficult but i read 85b4006.
This may not be exact as it is difficult to read.

sounds like you have got a 4x4 cosworth rear diff.. if as said you hold one side and is hard to keep the other side from turning its LSD but not for 2wd as the rear beam is for 7.5"

Yes thats what it was a 4x4 diff.
