Firstly make sure the balance and fader is set to a natural position, this will make sure sound is set to all 4 corners. Has this just stopped working or have you just purchased this car? Only reason i ask is because it could be worth checking the wires are connected at the back of the unit and make sure there are speakers behind the doorcards.
Sounds stupid but if you have just purchased the car the previous owner may have kept uprated speakers etc.

Ignore my last post please, just noticed that you have sound via CD player. I should have read your post properly.
Is it no sound at all on radio do you get any quiet static when turned up? Does the AUX port work if fitted?

I have owned the car 5yrs.

Not sure, or at least I have not seen Aux point.

If I turn Vol knob backwards and forwards at Max, I can hear very, very quiet hiss!

I have noticed the channel seeker is searching until a chosen channel knob is depressed!

I now know this is a common fault with this model of radio on Fords, where the amplifier goes. Not worth repairing! I picked one up from a scrappie for £50, which seems to be about right compared to Ebay.

Thanks for the replies people made

Alan
