hey all,
I'm looking at some SUV / Jeeps, because I have horses , and need to go pick up some animals for work sometimes.
and in these weather conditions, it's kinda hard.
so I was looking at the Kuga (because I would like to stay with ford) but I saw that the Kuga has a torque of 320 Nm at 2000rpm,
So I looked at the mondeo 2.0 130hp, and this one has 330Nm at 1800rpm.
So this Kuga has less. is this normal?
I looked at some models op Jeep, and these also have a lower torque then the MK3 I have.
Is the info of the mondeo correct?
any other jeeps someone would recommand?
It really needs to drive well at dirty , muddy, slippery roads. but still comfy at the normal roads, because I need to go to work 45 minutes by highway every day

Freelander.

Please don't call them jeeps unless they're made by Jeep.

I was referring to the ones made by Jeep: compass and patriot have a lower torque.

At the ford website it says the Kuga is an All Wheel Drive.

Towing capability is also important.Suspension on sedans isn't designed for towing very heavy trailers.

Yes, they have more torque at low revs, but weaker springs.
Pick up or SUV is more suitable for towing than sedan.
I'd rather take Kuga for this kind of matter.

i know the look of the land rover is good, but working with horses is just after my working hours, and I don't go on the road everyday with them, and picking up animals for work is not every month. So I do need one with a good MPG, so the Kuga does best with a resonable torque.

Slightly biased comparison of Kuga and Freelander here:

http://www.freel2.co.../topic6196.html

Kuga: 2.0D 136PS, 320 (340) Nm - Ford UK, Wikipedia
Freelander: 2.2D 150PS, 420Nm - Land Rover UK, Wikipedia

Or, if you're feeling flush and can wait a few months, the Evoque :D

I would have though a horse box /trailer would be over the mondeo and kuga's maximum towing limit.

1800 for the mondeo and 2100 for the kuga, Either way the trailer would be 1/2 ton over the cars kerbweight.

Trying to pull anything on a slippery surface would be a struggle especially if the trailer weighs more than the car.

Get a proper towcar.

A Hyundai tucson has a towing limit of 1600kg so i would assume they were towing illegally.

An ML on the other hand weighs over 2100kg with a 3500kg legal towing limit. Similar to a discovery.

Ive seen landrovers towing landrovers on trailers. You could say a good match. Why have i seen so many crashed ones?

I have also seen people pulling caravans with seriously unsuitable cars, Its only time before they come to a sticky end.

Seen the renault 5 and twin axle caravan on youtube? I have not witnessed anything that bad but plenty of illegal matches. People hook
them and and as long as it pulls away they think they are OK. Legal maximum weights only applies to others.

Possibly the same reason people who have unsuitable cars never state what the plated weight of their caravan/trailer is. They know the
answer already.

Do you know the trailers maximum gross weight?

New trailers with horse do not cross the 2100 kg.
Even so, i toe horses only ones a month, the little pigs I tow for wotk doesn't weigh a lot. Othwrwise I use the truck.
I ha e to do 75 miles every day at the motorway to, sometimes a do 200 miles a day for work with my car when not towing. So I need a car that doesn't drink to much feul euther. The towing of horses is just an extra which I don't see as the most important point when buying a new car

My last post on this matter because you dont really care if its safe or legal, I looked at several horse trailers on ebay and
contacted the sellers, They do not know the gross weight either.

Checkout google for trailer crashes, Notice anything in common = The trailer is heavier than the car.
Not a good combination.

BUT i have checked some others, and I might gofor the mitsubishi pajero. It has a towing limit of 3500 kg and looks nive both in and outside.
