Hi, I have an 03 Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 115bhp. The timing chain sounds very loud, sounds like an old jeep!

Just wondering would spraying WD40 on it help or hinder the problem?

No.

Don't spray WD40 on it. The chain is I believe lubricated with engine oil. If it is excessively noisy have it checked for tension and wear.

Hi Paul ..spraying wd on a timing chain is like putting pepper on chilli sauce ..not a goot idea.theres no easy way but you will find if you keep a good regular interval oil changed using the recomended formuls f oil for mondeo diesels it will make for a quieter chain ..but if the engine has been well worked in its life time so far then it would probably need a chain or at least a new tensioner and guides which im fairly sure can be ordered seperate from frauds but as for spraying anyting on the chain it would be a waste of time as soon as the engine starts the chain is lubricated with sump oil and anything like wd would be washed into the sump and would help to degrade the sump oil quicker..s
