I have a 56 plate fusion 1.4 tdci the abs light was on and a faulty n/s wheel sensor changed. The light has re appeared after 50 miles and every so often the speedo drops to 0mph and the engine drops to idle only. switching the ign off resets the engine but it comes back as soon as the speedo drops off. Which wheel sensor supplies the feed to the speedo and are there any simple test I can do?

i believe the system utilises all 4 wheel sensors, a faulty ABS module can cause this problem and is a known fusion/ fiesta issue, was it a Ford dealer that changed the wheel sensor as they have the equipment to diagnose this fault.

No the faulty sensor was found by myself using an oscilloscope and pins into the leads of each wheel, the front N/S had no output pulses at all and when the new one was fitted it showed up good, and the ABS light went out as soon as I moved off. It then worked fine for approx 50 miles over several days but has now returned but all wheels are sending pulses when rotated? I just want to try everything before leaving myself at the hands of a main dealer. can the ABS module be reset by any simple means?

Finally sorted this out, the car has only done 16K but the fault got worse, regular abs fault followed by ECU fault light and no accelerator. Ended up being the ABS module at fault,. sent away and repaired all within a week, re-fitted and working like new. Have read somewhere that another fusion had 16k and then failed the same so one to watch for. Also said if the ABS unit has not been used in anger the valves can stick and burn out the pump when it suddenly kicks in? dont know if that's true but would certainly fit with low mileage older driver and a faulty wheel sensor. Seems that a faulty unit can jam up the network and cause all sorts of problems.

Glad you got it sorted :L so it was the ECU in the end, as I mentioned its quite a common fault and yours is another victim of it!
