Hello all
I'm so pleased to have found a forum.
I was the proud owner of my M reg Ghia 2.5TD Granada until yesterday.

My car decided to tear off it's fan belt!! It appears the tension bar thingy has sheered. The AA kindly towed me home but bein female the AA man has kept the part and now any one I try and explain the part I was shown tells me
I do not know what I'm talking about.
I've tried looking on line for diagrams etc but no luck.

Any kind owners out there can you help with my quest so I can get the car back on the road. Even if it's a photo of your engine!
Thank you so much

Jaime

the best thing to own is a haynes manual, it tells you everything that you need. it'll pay for itself if you manage to pull off a job on your own too. a diagram and photo of the fanbely routing will be in there as well as instructions on how to refit a new belt and the part that is missing. it may be worth a trip to a breakers yard but being as its a granada it may well be worth giving them a call to make sure theres one there before you set off. if you call the aa it may be possible to track down your missing part from the aa operator if you don't leave it too long. have a look on ebay or the internet using google image search and see if you can find a pic, :)

I had one of these rare cars. The engine is from a Peugeot but the fan belt might be different on the 505 (I think). Get a piece of rope and run it around the pullies to get an idea of the length of the belt, then go to a good parts supplier who ought to be able to identify a compatible belt for you. Good Luck, it's a nice car, a bit tractor-like at slow speeds but great on a run. Mine died at the hands of a lady who t-boned me from a side road. :(

whats the problem, is it the bit the aa had is missing still, or are you unsure of the belt route?

Our problem I think is we don't have the strength to fight the tensioner thingy.

did you see it has a clamp bolt? on the old sierras you used to be able to clamp the pulley out the way until the belt was on, then release it when it was fitted. i wonder if this is the case with yours...

the sierras iirc you put an allen key in the tensioner, a bit of tube on the allen key and turned it to pull it out of the way then tightened the clamp bolt while holding it. could you not get some pry bar in there on the crank pulley and tensioner, apply some yee-haa, then nip the clamp bolt up?
