Hello!
I hope this hasn't been brought up to many times before, as lots of people have trouble with their locks.
So heres the scenario:

When it's dry and warm outside the locks work perfectly. But as soon as it gets moist and abit cold outside the locks start to act strange.

When unlocking the car it sometimes locks it self again ( all door unlocks and then locks after 1 sec).
When unlocking the car it sometimes tries to unlock again, you can hear the clicking noise as if you would when trying to unlock it with the remote when it is already unlocked. (same here, its heard from all doors)
Rarely but sometimes it locks while I drive ( all doors).
And finally when it's like below 0 celcius and I lock the doors it unlocks all doors after 1 sec.

I always lock the car from the remote key and it's set to unlock/lock all doors.

Sounds to me as if the drivers doors locking electronics which if I'm correct, controls all the other doors. But where does the moist get in and mess with the locks? Can I replace a seal somewhere?

Any help is much appreciated as the winter is soon here and thats when it get worst

Could be moisture.

Try Disconnecting one of the central locking motors and see if the others start to work.

Check for dampness in the doors when is goes wrong.

Check for cable breaks.

Then you could try a new ecu that controls the CL?

It just takes time to eliminate.

I've been told that its possible to do this test (for mk1's and 2's) on the mk3's, and it will yield same results, you could try doing this when its 'playing up' in order to narrow down the problem...

Also check your remote key fob. I had exactly the same symptoms and after much replacement of parts found it was the lock/unlock button on the remote that was slowly breaking away.

Its not the fob = /

Its only ever happening when its wet and or cold outside. Where should i start looking for moisture? since its happening to all doors something must control all doors. Is there somekind of central unit of one of the doors that controlls all the others?

Well it's still not cold enough outside to make it f**k up that often. But it happens once in a while at night and when it has rained. I will have to try it when it get more cold and more frequent. Still i'm abit curious when kind of things in the car can make ALL doors act in the same, wrong way. Must be some circut or relay that controls it all... = /

Did you ever find a solution to your problem? I have exactly the same problem when it's cold. If I put the car in a warm garage, then after an hour or so the locks starts to work, but as soon as I put it outside in the cold the problem occurs again.

What do the locks do?  What works and what doesnt?


Faulty boot switch, Broken or water inside?

Faulty bonnet switch, The connectors corrode.

Driveres door module,  Fault or moisture problem?

my money, for both the op and the new poster will be the drivers door lock unit.

Seasonal problems are what i had with my locking and it presented in many ways (inc ways that pointed towards the boot release switch too initially and progressed from there.)

replacing the drivers door lock and its dicky workings sorted out the seasonal issues and all other glitches it gave as it got worse over the years

PURPLE_LX; Well for me the problems starts whenever it gets cold outside. When Im unlocking with the remote I can hear the car unlock but emediatly it locks itself again. now, if I unlock manually with the key in the drivers side then only the drivers side opens; but if I open manually on the passenger side then the whole car gets unlocked properly. Same thing with locking, I cannot lock the whole car from the drivers side, only the passenger side. At summer or if in a garage 1hr+ the problems disappear.

Is this a MK3 mondeo?   None of ours have outer locks on the passenger side,  Or do you mean the internal handles?

In that case most likely the drivers door lock module.

well i have the same fucking problem in extreme cold weather the car`s alarm started I fix that find out it`s problem from the alarm shock sensor .... well the alarm i s whit but for 30 $ is ok.
after a while I discovered that when I`m locking the car /prom alarm remote or from my key lock button / after the locking it`s unlocking itself.
that called a "kick back " appears when the locking mechanism can not move to the end of the locking move
it`s allways the drivers door mechanism that failures most time is mechanical problem /dirt or bad lubricant /oil/ that freezes/
I`m from Bulgaria and it`s to f*cking cold to do anything to my car it`s -15°C and the wind is constant in my city and i`m lazy  
SOLUTION for now is >> to lock the mondeo with the key.and the double lock function you know put the key turn it first all way to the LEFT THEN ALL WAY TO THE RIGHT and hold it for 1-2 seconds the turn lamps must flash 2 times and then i`m pressing the alarm remote locking key to arm the alarm and is ok
