don't think the puma 1.7 has an auto choke, as i believe its injection. have you got a haynes manual for it?

the cld starting should be controlled by the ecu (computer)

i'd check all your battery terminals, spark plugs and plug leads for starters, then check the maf connections (on the air filter tube on top, unplug and re-plug in a few times) and see what happens.

you could reset the ecu to see if it cures the problem, there's no way the home mechanic can test it. usually removing the fuse for the ecu, (usually 3a in the engine fusebox/main fusebox, failing that it'll be the lowest rated one) or the battery negative lead for about 20 mins, do it first thing, when its cold, refit fuse/battery lead allow it to warm up, and hold the revs at about 1500 rpm for a couple of minutes then take it for a 5 mile varied speed drive. Theoretically it will have set itself back up by then. Have you had any other symptoms leading up to this problem? Do you have any other symptoms now?

Hi there again not had the car long only thing we have done is replace the clutch , lower suspension arms ,serviced brakes , and change front wheel bearing, plugs, air filter, coil pack, and rear axle bushes to get it back up to its origanal standard performance. i have noticed a slight flat spot like its holding back when you accelerate away.

i will try what you have recomened on thursday morning and i will up date you there after. :driving:

are all the black vacuum pipe leads connected? mondeo mk1's and 2's wouldn't idle at all (hot or cold) if certain hoses were not connected or had holes in them.
