Hi, a few month ago I bought a v6 cougar, I love it! But last night the coolant level come on so when I got home I checked the water. It had only dropped a little bit but when I took the cap off it had yellow foamy crap in it. I thought head gasket straight away but I checked my oil level and it's fine with no gunk on it, also took oil cap off and that's fine too. It still runs great and heaters work fine too. I took the expansion tank off and cleaned it out and now I'm just waiting to see what happens, the water wasn't very clean either. Do you think my head gasket is on it's way out?

Also my temp gauge goes half way as normal and stays where it should do.

When was the coolant last changed? Seeing as you've just bought it, I'd flush the system to begin with. It could be original crap for all you know.

I hope it's just that, that yellow froth crap is coming back a bit but I suppose its all in my engine now, it's going to the garage tomorrow, hopefully fit a service in for me too. I will be devastated if it's the HG

I phoned the garage today and booked it in, he says it doesn't sound like the head gasket but he will do tests and a coolant flush. I'm not as positive though, after reading about others on the Internet v6 engines that are going sounds like my symptoms

Got update from garage, he says doesn't think head gasket has gone and said that yellow stuff might be some sort of leak sealant someone put in. He showed me a leak while it was on the ramp coming from a big hose going into the thermostat housing. He said it's a big job to get to because he has to take loads of stuff off top of engine to get to it, sensors etc and he hasn't got the right equipment to sort the electrics back out when putting it back together. Would this hose leak cause my problem and is he right saying it's a big job to get to that hose?

Can you get up a photo of the pipe with the leak in it?
If you are handyish with basic tools, you should probably be able to do it yourself. Failing that, take it to another garage. It isn't a big job!

I took it to another garage yesterday, they did a complete water flush and when I picked it up he said he couldn't see a leak!! Anyway I drove it a bit last night and a bit today and so far so good! No yellow crap in water. Going to take it for a blast down the motorway after work. Hopefully it's fine now
