After being told by two garages my gasket was fine i decided to stop worrying so much about my car and had it in omc rapid fit for a service. When i picked it up he said the water in it was brown and it needed another flush, i took it this morning for the flush and while i was there he did a test to see if there was gases in my water. It didnt change colour so i left it with him and went, i got 5 mins down the road and they phoned me back saying it took a while but the colour has definatly changed confirming the head gasket has gone.

I dont know whether to just get rid now or pay for it, rapid fit wont do it and omc are going to phone me with a price, which he said could be about a grand or over. But even if i get rid no one is going to give decent money for it now and i have never sold cars for spares before. I need some advice on what you would do.

If i was to sell for parts how much am i looking at roughly, the car looks perfect inside and out. I am so gutted :(Posted Image Posted Image

Shame to scrap it :( It all depends if you got the head gasket done would you be able to get another car for that money that you just spent on fixing it with no problems? Forgot to add theres a place in Fleetwood that does head gaskets,carl36st200 was quoted between 800-1000 on his st200 :L

Probably, if im going to get stupid quotes for over a grand maybe i should just get another car, but i love my cougar. People are telling me to part ex it because there is no signs of the head gasket gone apart from the water being a browny colour but i dont know if i could do that to someone. Worst time to go this aswell. No wonder im starting to get grey hair haha. My Wife is pregnant again anyway so maybe i would of had to sell eventually but now im screwed even if i wanted to get rid.

Just to let any of you guys know in future if you have the same problem dont even bother asking omc ford for a quote. When rapid fit first told me about gases in my water i popped into omc and asked them how much to do the HG out of curiosity. They have just phoned me back and quoted me a ridiculous £2300!!!! I found a water leak on it when i got home anyway and put into another garage for them to sort out the leak. Ive been told if its just murky water i could get another year or so out of it which is good because im skint near xmas.

No not really, my dad is quite good on cars but nothing on this scale, we havnt got the space or the tools :( at the moment Im tight on money too with it being close to Xmas and another baby on it's way. I think I'm a bit screwed haha. I've had the leak fixed now though and coolant is staying how it should atleast :) I have had help already off here and I appreciate it. Great forum this. It's helped me out loads with this and my old Mondeo :)

reckon there might be a few up your way capable of doing this job, if can, post a help request in lancs area forum. (after xmas/when funds allow) might be a lot cheaper than even your lowest quote. :L

Yes I will try and save some money up and do it. At first I was thinking about getting rid but I love the car too much. Question is though, is there better parts you can get to stop it doing it again in the future because looking at past topics in here v6's are riddled with this problem!

some people drive it for ages like that, only problem being its potential to worsen, leading to more problems, take your time in it, don't thrash it and don't venture too far imo.
