Brake pad warning light staying on

Hi folks, I have a little problem with my Cougar (1999 V6 Auto with X-pack), all the brake pads and discs have been replaced but the brake pad warning light in the overhead console is staying on <_< . I have had all the connectors behind the wheels apart and checked they are clean and tight, no problems there, so now stuck, and want to avoid taking it in to a dealer for sorting. Anyone out there have any ideas? MoT isn't due until April so got a bit of time to sort it.

The pad warning sensors need to see an earth to keep the warning light out so a break in the wires to the pads anywhere will cause the warning light to come on, if you just need the light out I can give you the wire colour at the rear of the display that you need to earth out.
Are you sure you have checked the correct wiring? the pad warning wire is a very thin black wire with a connector plug on the suspension strut, not the thicker ABS wiring.

Hi, yes I checked the correct plugs, so from what you say if I put a continuity tester on the disconnected brake pad wires I should be able to check if I have a faulty pad sensor, out with the axle stands at the weekend then!

Dumb question, but have the pads actually been replaced with parts that contain wear sensors?

No question is dumb when trying to solve problems! :) Yes the correct pads have been fitted.

That's good then, you didn't mention if you had done the work yourself and often some garages will just fit stock parts without checking if they need sensors etc (cheaper!! :) )

Unfortunately then I can't help you anymore :( But Steve's advice sounds good :L

Investigated further over the weekend, all the pad sensors check out ok on continuity, what I have found is there is no current/voltage to the front left hand pad sensor. Checked for shorts to earth but all seems ok. The wiring diagram shows the sensor as being fed from the instrument cluster microprocessor through connector C92, the other circuits coming through C92 are ok so I'm presuming the connector is ok, so could it be a faulty instrument cluster microporcessor unit? Any one else had this?
