hi all i got a problem with my cougar 2 v6 2001 model , my key wont start the car but all dash board lights work , if i bridge the contacts on starter motor with ignition on car will start , but car will not start by turning the key any help on this subjecf will be much appreciated thanks keith .

are you using a proper pats chipped key?

these have a little coloured tab in the corner of them (usually red)

sounds a bit immobiliser issue to me, if you don't have a pats key, the immobiliser won't have a key signal to accept, if you have another key, try starting it with that.

yes mate tried both my keys still the same , i think that the immobiliser wouldnt let me start the car by bridging the contacts i also got a problem of the car cutting out at idle somtimes and the revs dropping when driving , but if i turn it of and back on while driving the car resets and works fine till the revs drop again . thanks for reply though ..

i presume you are aware that the 2.5 cougar is practically the same as the mk1/2/3 mondeo v6, albeit the body panels. Have you had a look through those forums?

if yours is before 2000 mk2 info will be more relevant, after 2000, mk3 stuff.
