Hi folks,

I've got a V reg Escort 1.6 16v. I've got a small issue with it, as in it misfires at low revs. It mainly misfires when it's under load, and below 2000 rpm. So say turning a corner and its in 3rd or 2nd gear and you put your foot down it coughs and splutters a bit.

I have already swapped the ignition module and the leads from a scrapped car some time a go, and that made a big difference to it and it rarely missed a beat. However, it's started getting worse again. Any ideas what this could be, or what I can look at first? Could it be a duff injector? Or likely to be ignition related still?

scrappy ignition coils won't last like a new one, you get what you pay for.
i'd say to try swapping it out again (i pay £5 for one) as you'll probably still be "in pocket" compared to the price of a new one.

mk1/2 Mondeos, mk1 Focus' and Escorts with the zetec engine use the same coil, just make sure you take it from the same engine, as ones for a blacktop are slightly different to those on a silvertop, (cam cover colour identifies black/silver "top"), though i believe if you get the leads too, it will fit. Be aware that the later "duratec" has the blacktop, but is different engine. The black and silver top engines look very similar.
