hello all, i am having a problem locking my car and would really apprieciate your advice

i have a ford focus zetec 1.8 X reg (2000)

The problem
when i try to lock my car using the key fob it sounds like it is trying to lock but unlocks straight away, i get a kind of "clunk...clunk" sound as though something is catching or preventing it from locking?

when i try to physically use the key in the drivers door lock, the same thing happens and also if i am sat in the car and go to lock the car from the drivers side it does the same(this was how i realised i had a problem, whilst driving alone in the dark i couldnt lock the doors.)

however all the doors will lock if the passenger door inside lock is pushed to lock position first. i can also lock all the doors using the key in the passenger door lock.

TEST - i have tried the haynes manual door test and when opening and closing each door the indicators flash as expected, so no problems found there.

please can some one help or offer any advice.

thank you

as the "test" here works on mondeo 1,2,3, escorts, can't see why it won't on the focus. its a bit better than the haynes book imo.

I would say the passenger door ajar switch has broken, so when you lock it via the central locking module it immediately unlocks again is it's being told the door is open.
