Hi

My Street Ka Cigarette lighter has stopped working. I have changed the fuse and its still not working.
I rely on it to charge my i-pod and satnav.
Any ideas what it could be ?

Thanks

Claire

firstly just have a look in the socket to see if there's anything obstructing the contacts, don't poke anything in it like a key as it'll just blow the fuse, if there's crud in the hole, hoover it out.

next thing to check is the wiring to it, its usually visible through a hole in the ashtray recess with the ashtray removed. you might need a torch.

if its all connected (further investigation might be required, perhaps removing the radio will give you better access) and the fuse is ok, then it could be a faulty socket, if things are regularly plugged in and unplugged then chances are the contacts in the socket have bent out of position, if this is the case it is possible to bend them back, but i suggest either disconnecting the socket, pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery before poking anything in it thats metal to bend the tangs back into place.

if this doesn't work, you'll need a replacement socket, you can get one from a scrappy, off ebay, from fraud (ford), or from a motor factor.

if you have a haynes manual, removal instructions will be in it.
