What's your view on this engine, am used to the 2.0 140 TDCI which I love to bits, it's such a keen bugger, in my mondeo even with five in the car, boot full of shopping in sixth up a hill it just keeps going. Can't only guess what's it's like re mapped.

Now The focus is lighter than the mondeo so am hoping that the diff is not that big, or am I likey to be disappointed ? and if so by how much ?

Hi, what year was your Mondeo as they seemed to have changed the mapping from 2009 on and again in the new focus and made the engine less tractability especially when pulling away from rest. I'm sure you won't be dissapointed though as it will have plenty of grunt. A remap will transform the car into something that'll make you smile plenty, I had my Mk4 Mondeo done and it was amazing in how it transformed the car.

On the open road I find the 1.6 TDCi fine, it's smooth and has plenty of power. I was a little worried that having a high 6th gear would dull motorway responses compared to my 2008 Focus with a 5 speed box. However it actually feels a little more response despite only doing 2000rpm at 70mph. It won't have quite the punch of a 2.0 TDCi but 210lb/ft torque on overboost should be enough to keep you moving. Having said that, Chriscatt is right, when pulling away and accelerating at low revs it's not so good being quite jerky and inconsistent in its' responses. I'm gradually getting used to it, but it's not enjoyable in town especially when the engine's cold.
