hi guys, im new here and have just bought a galaxy. found a few issues with it and could do with a bit of help to try and fix them.

its a 2002 galaxy 2.3dohc petrol ghia

issue's
1, interior heating doesnt work?? the climate control unit flashes a bit (on the led screen) when ignition is turned on, then nothing else happens. fans dont start ect.

2, the fuel gauge doesnt work, its always on empty.

3, remote central locking only unlocks the doors, have to lock them with the key

1) Could be any number of things. The flashing panel indicates a fault code is stored within the climate controllers memory so you would need to get that read and cleared to diagnose the fault and some codes can even shut the system down until cleared. You've bought a VW not a Ford though as the Galaxy is around 90% VW so you'll need someone with VCDS / VAG-Com to read and clear the controller.

2) Is that the only gauge not working? Could be a fuse if there are some more not working (analogue clock and stereo memory iirc) or could just be a faulty sender unit.

3) The CL system is seeing a door still open, there is a sensor per door (inc tailgate and bonnet) and they are for the CL system only (there is another for the interior light system) - again someone with VCDS would be able to tell which door is not changing state or you could manually remove each switch and test it. The other common fault is wiring break down within the door gaitors, if the drivers door isn't getting a supply then it won't allow the lock action.

Thanks for your reply. As for the climate control unit, I haven't got a clue where to start. Am I right in thinking that vag-com won't work on mine as its the ford 2.3 dohc engine? The fuel gauge, I'm thinking is probably something to do with the sender unit, as the needle moves ever so slightly when I start the car, so I'm guessing there is an electrical current there. And the central locking, where will I find the sensors? Many thanks
