My son has an 02 plate 1.6 petrol Focus and the waterpump gasket is leaking. To remove the pump he has to cut the belt off as there is no belt tensioner fitted. No problems so far........

However, the Haynes manual says to use a 'special too'l to refit the new belt. We have the new belt, but not the tool.
Has anyone managed to fit the belt without the aid of this 'special tool'?

Cheers

Hi

Not seen the installation so just taking a stab in the dark.
Is it possible to put the belt on the pulleys then force pump into position and fit bolts and tighten?

if you can slacken the bolts on one of the items driven by the belt it might give you a little more to play with, then once the belt is on, tighten them back up.

Managed to do it by removing the top two bolts on the alternator and swiveling it down on the bottom bolt. Used a lever bar to rotate it back up with the belt attached. Quite easy actually.

siruncle, no the tool looks nothing like that. It is a quarter section of a flywheel that bolts offcenter onto a smaller flywheel and lifts the belt onto the main flywheel. (if that makes sense)
