Hi - I have been asking on the Mk3 electrical forum but as it is becoming obvious this is a trailer lighting problem I thought I would post here as well. I have just bought an 06 Mondeo Titanium Estate 2 litre estate. It came with a towbar already on which looked like it had never been used. All was well the first time I towed with it but yesterday when I unplugged the trailer the indicators started flashing at double rate. There are no bulbs out on the car and if you plug the trailer back in the flash rate goes back to normal. It is as if the car is not recognising that the trailer has been unplugged and is showing a trailer bulb out when there is no trailer on there. Has anybody else had this problem or does anyone have an idea as to what to do about this?
Thanks
Graham

Sounds likea dodgy bulb on the car!
Does it falsh fast on rigth and left.
Check the indicator bulbs on the car.
Sometimes you can get strange faults with bulbs, they still light but draw the wrong current.
Also check incase someone had fitted LED bulbs.
Failing that the flasher relay could have got damaged.
What trailer indicator warning system is fitted?

The feed to the control unit is taken from the boot power socket - 12 volts all present and correct.......  However with deeper delving I pulled out the controller and had a look. It is and ECS unit made in Holland. Having looked at their website I tried e-mailing their customer services, not really expecting any results. 15 mins later they replied with a list of things to check. When I had done all that they advised me to cut and tape out the way the blue and red wire to the control unit. This did cure the fault but I was a bit sceptical about having to cut one wire out of the system so checked with them again and they are quite happy it is not needed...... Top marks for speed of response and they did sort the problem.
