Hi Everyone,

My first post i am a little bit new here, i will properly introduce myself soon however

I'm a little confused really to say the least as per the title, i've owned my Fiesta ST since january and began a project on my car which has more or less expanded and got bigger as the weeks go by with more ideas. I've eventually settled on a Cosworth Duratec HE 2.3 (250BHP) engine for my car.

Having now finished everything for brakes to suspension and generally speaking getting the car to handle the power efficiently im now left to fit the engine and a sufficient gearbox to follow.

However blind as i may be im not really familier with Ford that well although i should be but my first project was actually a Japanese car and their designs by whole and generally speaking are completely different to Ford and lets call it Western vehicles.

Any who.

I've managed to buy two MTX75 gearboxs, one from a RS2000 Escort which i've established is not the right box for the Duratec HE engine.

And another from  a Mondeo ST220 (V6 3.0 Duratec)

I've been told that this box is not the correct box and should be a duratec one which is confusing enough it was mounted to a duratec box.

But im told again two completely different boxes.

Okay noted

So im presuming the box i should be after is the one from the Focus ST/ Focus MrkII RS which is compatible in size.

im aware both boxes are not a straight forward mount up jobby requiring custom mounts and brackets and what not.

But can anyone explain how one duratec box (which looks identical) is different from the other?

If anyone knows the answer i can throw a big giantic internet hug and kiss your way :whistling:

Not had many fords over the years so the exact ins & outs of what box fits what is not my strong point.

The issue is Ford seem to reuse the same names for several parts.  I think the older V6 was a duratec engine
but then they made the MK3 and called the engine the duratec HE.

At a best guess the difference is probably the bellhousing. Possibly stronger shafts and bearings in the V6 boxes.

MTX75 gearbox seems to apply to all front wheel drive fords with the 5 speed box.

Have fun.

The Mk2 Focus st has a different gearbox, the Mk3 2.0 Mondeo has the same gearbox as the Mk1 and Mk2 Mondeo boxes, so for the 2.3 Duratec unit the MTX75 box will fit.  Bear in mind though that the 2.3 Duratec HE engine was often an auto only option, so there may be some further investigation to do.

Ok iirc the v6 boxes won't fit the durance he 4pot engine as bellhousing bolt pattern doesn't match up. The mtx75 box 5 speed from the mk3 Mondeo will match the engine and bolt on. The box may need custom gear selector cables made up but it should fit. The mk2 focus rs box won't match up as yet again that's the volvo 5pot lump. And the focus mk1 rs and st170 6 speed box will fit the early zetec zeta e engine bellhousing but not the duratec he engine yet again down to bolt hole patterns and gear cables. The mtx75 box will be strong enough.

Im sorry to say this but the Fiesta ST doesn't use the MTX75 gearbox
it uses a IB5+ gearbox
The Duratec HE is a joint Ford/Mazda engine and has a different bolt pattern for mounting the gearbox than a standard Ford fitting box
The only gearboxes you can use from the Ford range are
Fiesta ST IB5+
you might be able use a box from any Duratec HE powered Ford like the mondeo mk4 with a 6 speed but you'll struggle to fit it in the engine bay

your best bet is to upgrade your current box as theres lots of upgrade parts available

i know but you can get the duratec mtx to mount with few tweaks and custom brackets to the HE engine.

the IB5+ is excuse my french a pile of $!*"%

My diff blew before i have even put my new engine in never liked it from the start. cheap and cheeful best describes the IB5 in the Fiesta.

does anyone have any pictures of the correct MTX75 for a 4pot duratec?

Cheers Simon.

I thought Mazda had something to do with that engine/gearbox. Can't you get an adaptor plate made up to fit the mtx75 box to fit. Bit like the mounts and plates to adapt the type 5/9 boxes to sierra rover and xe engines.
