Hello all.

I have a leak in the coolant system but I can't afford to get it repaired until pay day on 25 February. I have been putting tap water in before, and during, each journey to work (buying enough coolant for each journey would be too expensive). Will it be OK for me to continue doing this until I get paid or will I cause any major damage if I continue doing this?

Many thanks

(ps. I put this request on an older thread earlier today but as I've got work in the morning and need an answer pretty soon before driving, I thought I'd start a new thread to it'd be noticed. Hope y'all don't mind.)

yeah, water ok as long as it doesn't freeze. (might do tonight)

is it a bad leak? do you know where its coming from?

if you go out in the morning and the car starts and squeals, turn it off as the coolants frozen. Ring work and have the day off.

Thanks Siruncle. I haven't yet had the chance to look under it yet; I don't think it leaks too much (though it does leak) when the car is switched off but it leaks increasingly more when the engine is on and the car is running (the red light came on yesterday about 15 miles after I'd filled it up). Someone told me today it could be the gasket - I hope not!

Anyway, thanks again, oh and I love your avatar!

    many love my avatar!!!

if you have beige mayonnaise under the oil filler cap (see pic below), the rocker box or in the expansion tank where you fill with water its the head gasket, if its dripping just water it'll be out a hose, the water pump or a sealing gasket gone mate. if the waters dripping from the drivebelt side of the engine, (alternator etc) its probably water pump.
