have a look in the wiki, link: http://www.fordwiki....d_Clearout_TDCi it explains how to do it on a pre 2007 mondeo tdci. It is messy, so start saving old newspapers etc...

the link is for a mk3 mondeo, the parts might be laid out differently, but the method is the same :L

'messy' is an understatement!  Also get a big box of nitrile gloves (latex ones will melt when carb cleaner touches them), i went through about eight pairs doing this job.

It's about £7 from Halfrauds, cheaper if you go to a local car shop.

If the carbon build up is dry it might be worth trying to get as much off as you can before spraying with carb cleaner, it will lessen the mess.
i know its probably stating the obvious but its often the obvious that gets forgotten when you get stuck in.
