Hi Guys,
Im looking at buying this week a new Focus Zetec. But I cantmake up my mind on the new 1.0 125 bhp or the 1.6 125bhp. The 1.0 is £500 more.
I know the 1.0 will be better on fuel, but don't really know much about it.
that is some info on the engine. Why not take one for a spin and see what you think, imo, if you're not going to let the engine have chance to warm up properly, (i.e. driving 3 miles or less a day, lots of stop starting etc) you might be better off with the 1.0. If you're long journeying in it the 1.6 might be more suitable.
Does it have to be a focus? the fiestas are looking quite big lately and the same 1.0 engine is offered.

Thank u for the info. yeah I think it might have to be the focus two small kids to taxi around lol. I took the 1.0 out and I couldn't fault it actually and I will be only doing small journeys so it may be the best option.
1.0 ecoboost is definitely the one to go for, it might be £500 more but road tax is £30 a year as opposed to £130 on the 1.6, it's more economical, and half a second quicker to 60 as well
3 seconds quicker from 31 to 62 where it counts,I was bowled over by this engine and can't wait to drive the 177bhp version which is rumoured to be in development .
I cant see petrol going down in price so as long as that's the case the 1.0 will be the engine people want, plus I think you will see offerings from other companies,I've come from a 2.5 t down to a 1.6 because of costs.if there would of been a 1.0 available for delivery I would of had one, so either I'm just a tight bugger or this is the trend lol.
I know here either selling like hot cakes or they haven't built any,I've settled for another 1.6 ecoboost 150 ps which is no bad thing because I get 34 mpg on cold start short 2 mile trips and I've had up to 48mpg on long runs at 65-70 mph.
Oh yea there fine they can just feel abit flat if you've come from a turbo'd car petrol or diesel but if n/a your bag using revs there fine my mate has one and he loves it.
Hi, new here (though long time lurker) and this topic relates directly to what I'm deciding on. I'd ordered a Midnight Sky Zetec Estate 1.6 125 way back in January ready for a changeover in May. I'd started looking very early to give myself plenty of time to look at other cars and not make any snap decisions, but pretty much ordered the new Focus right away anyway. Unfortunately, my dealer has phoned today to tell me that Ford no longer have the 125 1.6 engine for manual cars (powershift only). A bit damn late to be finding this out, I almost told him to stick it, but I really want a new Focus and since I'd been kicking myself for not waiting after reading about the 1.0T 125 engine in Febuary, maybe it's a blessing in disguise. Pretty sure I'll end up with a 1.0T 125 Zetec Estate, but I'm hoping to test drive one on Wednesday to be sure. Everything I've read about them tells me it's a better choice than the 1.6 125 engine. I won't often be hauling huge amounts, despite going for an estate; just wanted a larger boot basically so I'm thinking that the 1.0T should be more than up to the task for day to day running around and offer better MPG as well.
So to the OP, I've nothing concrete to base my decision on, only what I've read. But I'd go for the 1.0T over the 1.6, and if my dealer is to be believed, you may not have a choice if you want a manual anyway.
Yeah def don't want auto they didn't even mention that is was a auto buggers would of cried if I got it. I think there is one 1.0 coming through so I am. Crossing everything that when I order today it will still be there
Had a result, the dealer called the last one in for there stock so nicked that, should be one of the first on the road should get it early may. took it for another drive again today you would never believe its a 1.0. got the appearance pack and 17 alloys as well do excited
Just (amended my) order the 1.0T too, mid may is the wanted delivery period, but if that's not possible my dealer is going to phone around and see if there are others of a different colour but same specs (ordered zetec estate plus rear park assist in Midnight Sky). If not, I'll just have to wait. Shall be eagerly awaiting your thoughts (and piccies) Dennis 999 ... at least until I get mine
I've had the new Focus 1.6T ecoboost Zetec S for around a month now and covered 1100 miles. Have to say i think i would have to drive like "Miss Daisy" every time i drove it to even achieve 40mpg!
I'm sure i read that the combined stats were stated to be around 44mpg??
I always use "stop-start" and change gear as directed by the dash number to achieve the best mpg.
I only spend around 30% of the time giving it some beans for an overtake or just for the hell of it. Yet the clock indicator tells me i'm averaging 30-33 mpg.
Does that sound about right to you folks or am i just missing my cdti??
I have my new baby and I'm happy to report so far I'm loving it, cant believe after apending 19k you dont get mats though and the owners handbook is made out the cheapest paper I have ever seen in my life. One drop of water and the whole books kanckered. But having said that if thats the only bad thing to report I will be a happy bunny
How are you getting on with your Focus?
I'm not happy with the fuel economy at all!!
This is what i posted on another Focus forum. I feel a little embarassed to be honest. There are so few of the Zetec S petrols out there it was nice to have something a little different. Now i feel foolish and naive as all bar a few fools out there like me saw the writing on the wall!! I'm so dissatisfied with my Focus Zetec S 180 petrol consumption, i'm returning it with a percieved "fault" to be rectified. You can't bulls**t a potential buyer parting with the best part of 20 grand that a particular model does a "combined 47.9 mpg" when in the reality of day to day driving you're getting 32 - 34 mpg!! I'm no boy racer but i'm also no dreaded Sunday pensioner driver! But my Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 cdti, from memory was given an indicated average of about 49 mpg. And no matter how hard that car was driven it always returned a minimum of 47 mpg!! It was the first Ford i've owned, and if "they" can tell such basic blatant lies like that, it will certainly be the last!!!
