I have a Ford Mondeo 2.5T Titanium X Sport - 2009, and have owned it from new so it has not a chequered past. The car has a Full Ford Service History and has just hit 32,000 miles.

The car has had an alarm problem going on for the last three months and has spent over six weeks in different periods of time at the Ford Garage, the last being just over three weeks.  From speaking to the technician the symptoms displayed in the Canbus system states the car's keyless starter button is being pressed whilst the car is armed and from my obsvervations this only seems to be when it gets cold, typically 3am in the bast**rd morning!!  The alarm was even going off whilst in the garage and was getting worse!

The Ford garage had been working closely with Ford and has spent nearly £4k on time and replacement parts some of which are as follows:-
  • Internal Alarm (Situated Under Front Wing)
  • Starter button
  • Starter button to alarm module wiring loom
  • Alarm Module
  • ABS Module
  • Internal Alarm Sensor (Don't know why as I can toggle the internal deactivation on/off and it make no difference)
  • Radio??
  • Drivers Door Module
I logged a call with Ford early March as the car is not fit for purpose and I was getting concerned that the Warranty was ending at the end of March.   They said they would send a Senior technician out to the garage but by the time they got round to it the garage thought they had fixed the problem!  And yes it worked for nearly two weeks but the weather was mild and even hot at one stage.

3am Friday the 13th the bloody thing goes off again, I give up!  The garage was nearly in tears when I told them and has given up, Ford customer services could give a toss and I am left with a car with continuous Alarm problems.

I am glad I have taken Ford extended warranty out!  Anyone with any views on what I should try next, I would be extremely appreciative.

Thanks

Sorry to hear your tale of woe, yes that would be very annoying.

It's a nice car you have there, red is a rare colour, I am a big advocate of the red despite owning a silver car myself, I've only seen 5 actual red MK4's in my time.

What can you do?  This springs to mind

It has crossed my mind, although its not the dealers fault.  I blame it on Ford as it seems to take for ever to push items through under warranty claims!  Surely there must be a stage whereby I say to Ford the car is not fit for purpose?

As I am not a Ford Technician, are your referring to the Canbus Central Control Box or the Alarm??

Thanks

CJB. Phil. I'm not convinced of the stability of the CJB which powered all the time. In fact I’m not sure anything on the MK4 that comprises any firmware is stable. Yes a sweeping and unfouned statement but firmware updates to CJB, AC, Radio, CAN interface, Alarm and engine management, and some people have had to pay for and still bugs remain.

As the fault message seem to be from various unrelated devices, what is giving the messages? The individual device or a look up in the CJB?

Car alarm went off again last night around 2.30am, so I had to leave it unlocked to stop the alarm going off.  The car got locked up again this morning and has been fine all day!  I am 90% sure it is temperature related!!

Left car unlocked all night, best sleep I have had all week!!  Alarmed the car this morning and guess what within 1 minute it was going off.  Disarmed it and tried to start it, cycled round and nothing, something has killed the battery.  It was alarmed all day yesterday with no problems, but as soon as the cold weather comes it goeso off.  It sounds like the battery to me!

If the engine turned over OK is that the battery? Did it allow you to try and strt for quite a while?

Flat battery after Alarm had nailed it.  Charged up and taken to Ford, I am now driving the Service Managers car whilst they try and investigate the problems along with Ford Technical Support.

That's Interesting.  I had a loan car (2011 1.6TDCi Econetic), whilst my car was in recently.

This car kept behaving like the bonnet was continually being open and closed, but it never did it after about 10:00 AM.

Driving the thing in the morning, the cabin was filled with a continuous "Bing-Bong, Bing-Bong" for a couple of hours, and BONNET OPEN was flashing sporadically in the display. It was extremely annoying, and I couldn't stop the noise, even after chcking/unchecking the options in the CHIMES section of the menu. Despite opening and closing the bonnet several times, it never went away.

I didn't bother wasting my time taking it back to the dealers, since it was their car anyway, and I never bothered locking it, because the alarm was forever going off.
