hi,

i'm looking to get my first modeo (moving from passat 1.8T)

I do mixed driving . Town, a-class, M-way about an even split

i have been looking at the 2.0 zetec till now.

I'm now taking a look at the TDCi.

About the only performance figure difference i see is the 0-62. quoted 105 for the 115 and 9.5 for the 130.

How big is the difference in performance in real life. And what's the difference mid range in 3rd say 30-70mph?

Are there any other noticeable differences i should know about.

cheers..........

personally, if i had a choice between 115 and 130 and there was no other factors i would go 130... but if you are looking at a 130 thats a lot dearer than the 115 it would be madness to pay £1000 or so for the 130 as you could get a 115, pay £250 for a tuning box and get 142bhp and the same torque as the 130.

driving wise, you get more of a traditional turbo 'kick' with the 115 as it has a fixed vane turbo... i.e. its spinning or its not! the 130 has a variable vane turbo, so you feel the power coming in gradually giving 'more' of an n/a feel to it. economy wise they are both pretty much on equal terms but laden up heavy in summer with a/c on etc and you might find that the 130 just gets *slightly* better mpg because it has a little more torque.

you were asking about performance differences... the figures speak for themselves the 130 is definately quicker, probably more due to 50nm rather than 15bhp. but with the different turbo's you'll probably find that the 130 doesn't feel quicker... till you look at the speedo!

Ahh, but stick a tuning box on a 130 and you get 160bhp and 280nm of torque, more than the ST TDCi 155!!

I,too, came from a Passat - 1.8 20v. I now drive a TDCi 130 Ghia X hatch.

The Mondeo is a far better car to drive but you may well want to compare quality of build??? It's the ONLY doubt I have since the Mondeo just begs to be driven!!!

Cost of running wise I can give you a complete spreadsheet covering the last 2 years if you are interested.

Theres nothing wrong with the build quality on a mk3 mate. In fact its one of the areas where the mk3 scores very well.

Here is the ultimate Deciding Factor.

get a TDCi 130PS as you can give a V6 a nice run for it's money as standard. Put a tuning box on and you maske Mr V6 invest £2000 just to beat you by a cars length again.

Also, with a 130 you can tell the wife just how "Grown-Up" your being by having a diesel. Little will she know that it can be puseh hard!
