I take it 'lend' is Northern for 'borrow'? :}

I've got a soft spot for Cortinas. My Dad had a mk2 and 3, but never a 5.

Amazes me how small they are compared with a Mondeo, when you consider they are the Mondeo's direct predecessor. Yet the ones my Dad had felt like big cars at the time.

Er, have you forgotten the Sierra :} They have gotten bigger over the years for sure, with the first Cortinas being much smaller than they went on to be by the end of the run.

In brief the family tree going back a few cars is:- Consul (52-62), Cortina (62-82), Sierra (82-93), Mondeo (93-onwards) . So far the Cortina has had the longest lifespan, but the Mondeo is still going so could overtake the 20 years that had if they do a MK5 or the MK4 is still being produced in 2013.

Yes.....yes it is :} :}

My dad had all the Mk's except the Mk3. His Mk2 metalic gold GTE with rostyles and leather seats and twin webbers was my favorite although he did have a Lotus but I was too young to realise what it was.

No I haven't, although looking back, the word 'direct' shouldn't have been there.

I wondered if anyone would pic up on it!

By the way, you forgot the Corsair, although really I think that was a parallel model to the Cortina. Never really worked out what the point of it was.

It was based around the floorpan of the MK1 Cortina but was longer. It shared many of the mechanical and body components of the Cortina. It was made between 64 and 70 in the UK so was along side the Cortina and not a predecessor or successor to it.
