Hello there everyone ...

I know this is going to be a slightly odd post and i dont know if ive even posted it in the right section but im currently undertaking the task of putting a 2.5 V6 mondy lump into a mk6 escort RS2000 and i thought id have a chat to you guys as ur obviously going to be the most knowledgeable on this engine and its capabilities and characteristics ...

Firstly just wanted to ask what ur opinions are on the engine and also what are the most effective ways of tuning it bearing in mind with my small engine bay a turbo is out of the question but I have room for a supercharger but ive read on here that they are unreliable on the v6s?

Cheers for reading my essay any help or advice would be much apreciated :L

(ps mods if there is a forum section it would be more suited to please feel free to move it)

First thing is change the water pump for a metal jobbie,if that packs up all your hard work will have been for nothing.....IMHO I'd have fitted a 2L lump and go for forced induction, the 2.5V6 is not the most tuneable engine out there, even getting an extra 30bhp is quite costly.....

I would have gone for a 2.3 galaxy engine, Its the same engine as the RS2000 but is a 2.3, Actually Im not 100% sure, Ive worked on a 2.3 galaxy and a RS2000, They seem very very similar

ah right fair enough well ive already had a 2.3 engine that was converted from a galaxy but fanied doing something different this time and i was told that u can buy supercharger kits from the states for the v6 lump ...

Main reason im going for a different engine is that the rs2k lump is a bit of a nail to get power from and even when you do the 2.3 conversion you stil have the same issue ... one of my mates has a 2.3 turbo running 300+ bhp but its wasnt cheap at all coz there are absolutely no off the shelf parts.

So what sort of power can you produce from the 2.0 supercharged and for how much coz i dont know these engines very well ...

cheers for ur replies :thankyousign:

Quite a bit of information here:
http://www.fordmondeo.org/forum/showtopic.php?tid/722607/

Your probably going to struggle for either a Supercharger really as they originate from the US usually, and many of the Mondeo/SVT kits have been discontinued.

The above post however contains some phone numbers for some british company who has done a conversion on one of the 2.5V6 engines on here. Converted to 3.0L then supercharged it.

yeah they are now discontinued ... ok so how about the 2.0 lump ... what turbo kits/super charger kit options are available for that block? also ive seen some people have adapted focus supercharger kits for the 2.0?

I hate the RS200 and galaxy 2.3, Especially the 2.3, But at the mo I am trying to get about 300bhp from a 2.0 series 3 zetec

i have fitted the jackson racing supercharger to my mondeo, blacktop zetec 2ltr. the kit is designed for the focus 2.0ltr zetec (the same engine). i had to change a few bits ie alternator, iac valve and a couple of mods to the vac lines. all in all the kit bolted straight on.
power wise i have 203bhp and 178 lbft.
i had to have a unichip and a tune too.

meg member percybigun has the same supercharger as me on his mk1 mondy but it was more hassle fitting it to the earlier zetec.

there are a few more kits available for the focus but i'm not sure if they will bolt on to the mondeo due to their positioning and the shape of the mondy bulkhead etc. there are guys in the us who have tuned their superchagred foci to 300+ bhp with the powerworks kit.
one in particular is hoping for 500hp, turboed. he is at 415hp 348lbft at the moment.
so there is plenty of scope for the 2ltr zetec.

if you want to look for yourself click the link
http://forums.focaljet.com look in the fi section, some good stuff with knowledgable members.

usual things to consider with a conversion like this such as bellhousing, driveshafts, management, engine to dash wiring loom hybrid, engine mount positions etc.

its a fair bit heavier than an I4 engine so you will need uprated suspension so the front of the car isnt too low.

the vortech supercharger kit for 2.5 duratec (made in USA) is no longer available to buy, it was about £2500 for the kit when it was available. most of the kits sold, the SC failed so thats why they pulled them from sale.

there is the arizona dyno chip turbo kit available from usa which is good but am not sure its still available. and you cant do the noble twin turbo setup on a front engined car AFAIK.

you can get more power from the 3.0V6 normally aspirated (with tuning obviously!) than the 2.5V6 supercharged setup.

the 3.0 responds better to the 2.5 to mods.

if you do do the 2.5, get a st200 engine they are already much better to start with. sounds like a nice project and its good to see people finally starting to do nice things with the v6 after all these years of hardly anything been done with them!

cooling is the main problem with their reliability, they got a reputation of blowing HG's due to the water pump prob, sticking fans, etc. regularly serviced and checked they go over 200-250k miles.

obviously its alot more complex than a 4-pot setup and uses more juice but that v6 noise is pretty damn cool!

Real nice sounding project you got there mate, nice to see people trying different things. As said before thou the 2.5 can be a task to get decent power from. The 3.0 would be a better starting point, but there is the procharger s/c which will fit both lumps Autocraft sve in salisbury charge £5000 to do the conversion :headshake: and they are a bit reluctant to supply the kit alone apparently because bespoke parts need to be fabbed, but by the sounds of it you would be well up to the task. It certainly would be a bit different if you go ahead.

I will tell you on sunday how much you can run on the spec I have, Hoping to be running 18psi for the Well Lane/Passionford RR day, Nearly there, Im at 15psi, I know the std blacktop can run 14psi with a 2.5mm de comp plate

someone on turbosport bench tested a 2.0 zetec up to 280bhp on standard internals with ARP conrod bolts. its more the RPM that does the damage than the boost.

my 2.0 zetec is 230bhp (supercharged) with ARP conrod bolts and 50bhp nitrous on top and is fine with it.
