Hi, have you had compression test done?
i know theres a "cold start" gizmo on some transits that keep the revs a tad higher than normal till normal running temperature is achieved, never heard it mentioned with regards to a mondeo, or maybe you have 1 or more faulty glowplugs resulting a start with colder cylinders?

did it start easy in the recent -5 weather and icy mornings?
havent had 1 done, it seems to be going perfect when its driving apart fom fuel consumption has droped quite abit
get yr glowplugs checked first

cheaper than pumps and injectors!

There is a cold start setup for the Mondeo, mine starts easily and ticks over around 1000rpm for a short while, obviously all controlled by the ECU. Only problem I have is the warm/hot starts where it ticks over at around 600rpm for a few seconds before it will respond to the throttle pedal and tickover rises to normal.
try a double heat of the glow plugs two that will rule those out :)

any defunct glow plug will still leave a dead/cold cylinder though

have em checked for supply, timing and heat

and it was manual in my day....
(no damned autochoke, another rubbish idea)
And the number of people that fitted manual choke conversions on Montego's & Maestro's :)
and cortinas/escorts

i never had a montego that needed it

but i had a Montego MG

Turbo

now there was a demon of a car
Varajet 2 on Opel Manta, awful thing (the carb, not the car...) replaced with a Weber DGV, or was that DGAV?
best stop this or others will think we are old

bought a manta hatch (1.9?) with a "cylinder or piston U/S" for £50 only to find a valve rocker had lost its nut, had 1 in the bit box....lol

in red with full bodykit

First company car was a Maestro 1.3 in Mocca brown with tan interior - nice :) When the gear linkage started popping off 2-3 times a day I finally managed to persuade the transport manager to get it fixed - the joys of company cars!
had a Corsair auto with straight 4 1600cc

a rover 3 ltr saloon, auto, straight 6, all leather+wood

a viva 2300cc (went to buy a Chrysler V8 but missed it)

turned down a Vand Plas 4ltr R and a sunbeam alpine sports
The Manta coupe is still a good looking car after all these years (cue Hovis music). Should have had the straight six from the factory though.
there were 2 body styles shared with the cavalier coupe and hatchback and 2 different engines i think, 1.9 in the manta i seem to recall
