Interesting project! The 4x4 system is from a Jag X-Type 3.0 sport which as most probably know is essentially a more expensive but less attractive ST220 with 4x4 - yes, there are some quite significant differences regarding the rear suspension set-up.
The gearbox is a modified version of the MTX75 fitted to the 5 speed ST220s, the difference being the additional drive splines from the RH side of the front diff casing that drive the transfer box. The transfer box is very similar to the one fitted to the Mk1 Mondeo Si 4x4 but slightly larger I believe. The rear diff is again the Jag item (standard open diff - no LSD) and is quite a bit heavier than the one fitted to the Mk1 4x4.
The rear suspension is independant exactly as it was as standard but with the addition of the rear diff mounted in the rear subframe and driveshafts running outwards to the knuckles where the Mondeo hub assemblies have been substituted for the Jag hubs.
The owner of the car, Jon, has very kindly allowed me to reproduce his diary here. A very interesting read
