Hi

The 80 Amp main fuse has blown several times on my 02 reg Ranger 2.5TD.

The last one I fitted went straight away. I have had it suggested that it could be an alternator fault.

Any ideas??

Disconnect the cable from the battery to alternator at the alternator -insulate the end - then replace the fuse if it does not blow then likely to have a short at the alternator - if it still blows then cable may be earthing somewhere between batt and alternator

Hi Mike

Followed your suggestion, isolated alternator totally, ran engine, fuse didn't blow. Reconnected all electrical connections to alternator, started engine, so far have driven about 30 miles and fuse hasn't blown.

The next step will be to explore wiring enclosed in the conduit, from the alternator to the battery.
