Another suspension question

Okay, so i got my kind friend to help me change my rear suspension spring after failing the mot on a broken one. We managed to replace it, but the spring i used to replace it wasnt tapered at each end (wasnt squished to sit in the plastic supports properly) Where as the one that came out was.

Will this affect my suspension or will the new one settle into place?

Also there was a bang when i took it out for a spin afterwards, but im sure it was the spring moving up.
