What are your opinions.

What is the 18-55mm kit lens like?

Should i get one with a 28-300mm lens, to cover the further distances i may need to reach?

I have a D70 with an 18-70 kit lens. The focus on the 18-55 is meant to be quite soft, from what I've heard. The 18-70 AF-S is more expensive, but the pics are gonna be noticeably sharper and will have more contrast too.

A budget 28-300 will give you an equivalent film focal length of approx 42-450 - I doubt you'd need that much, and image quality won't be all that good! (A decent long-range zoom is megabucks)

If you're local to me, you're welcome to come over and see for yourself... :L

thanks. what would you suggest for motorsport type pics, would i be better getting a 28-200mm lens instead of the 300mm one to try and keep the image quality?
