put a voltmeter across the battery and rev the engine to say 4000 rpm , it should read about 14.5 volts , if it is more then the alternator could be shot :sad:
just beware that if the alternator is overcharging the battery then the battery has the potential to become a nasty bomb of sorts , you do not want showering with battery acid , trust me on that one :sad:
