Hi. I've just added a can of this fuel additive bg244 to my 2011 tdci mondeo. I'm getting apparently 52mpg but very bad idling when cold with lots of blue unburnt diesel smoke and poor running for a good few minutes before I can pull away. I'm pretty sure one injector is down till it warms up a little . Also performance isn't great in my opinion I thought the 140 model would go pretty well but it's pretty disappointing. So I'm not expecting miracles but there's plenty of scope for even a little improvement before I do any more serious work and I'll update with results after a 100 miles or so. The car has done 140k but is well maintained oil and filters wise . The additive was £24 on e bay . Not bad if effective but I used to use a delphi recommended additive every service at half the price which I'll go back to if this doesn't impress.

Well 250 miles on and I've seen no apparent improvement whatsoever. The smoking is worse , mpg has dropped a fraction and no noticeable improvement in performance. As I first thought my problem is no doubt beyond fuel system cleaning but it would have been nice to see some positive results before trying anything else. Looks like a leak off test next. I'm sure others have had great results with bg244 but so far I'm not convinced

These things are always worth a try on the off chance the problem is dirt rather than wear, but no additive is going to fix a worn injector. I tried the BG244 when I had a similar problem with my Mk3, but it had absolutely no effect. I ended up needing 4 new injectors and a fuel pump, so it was never going to!

To protect my investment and on the advice of the diesel specialist who sorted my car, I always use an additive when I fill up now, especially with the supermarket stuff.
