Boot solenoid

Has anybody ever changed the solenoid that releases the boot catch on a MK2? I think I need to change mine and I was having a look this weekend. I managed to release the solenoid ok but it's connected to the boot catch with a push rod, and I couldn't see an easy way to disconnect this. Does the whole boot catch assembly have to come out to be able to remove the push rod from it? Also, on the boot release button, on the inside of the boot, is a micro switch which I think is supposed to move out when the button is pushed. It appears that the button, when in it's rest position, doesn't move out far enough to un-make this micro switch. It's as if the micro switch is permanently closed. Hope this makes sense and you're not all totally confused - cos I am.

Remove the two torx screws and lift the latch out enough so you can see the rod, then disconnect it,you then should be able to remove the solenoid. I think that's how I did it,but that was years ago.

Thanks for that. It was a very easy job when I got down to it. Boot solenoid now replaced and boot opening without having to use the key every time. :L

Having the same problem with a V reg Mk2. The solenoid was clicking, but now its dead. The boot unlocks/locks with the key okay.

Going to a breakers soon to find a working boot solenoid.

Do I need to remove any fuses or power off the car before doing this?

PS: There have been mice in the boot. could they have caused this mischief by chewing through something?
