Don't you need uprated gas struts as well, or are they included in the price?
I really have no idea! Didn`t know about having to uprate the struts! Anybody know if you have to uprate struts as well???
YES, Mondeo with boot spoilers have different gas struts, its to cope with the extra weight. Mine had to have them replaced and they're still not very good!
Hi, I seem to remember mine being done at the dealer for around £340, and yes it does have to have uprated struts..

Flipping heck, does the spoiler on the Mondeo create so much downforce. I'm now inspired with confidence that my backend maybe wont beat my front end.
:D - No, it's not the downforce from the car moving, it's the extra weight when you're trying to open the hatch. :L
Thanks for letting me know that new struts will be needed too! I`ll get onto pricing them up too.
Glad to help! :L
Actually does anybody have the part no for the upgraded struts?
Cheers all!!
Hi, this isn't an up-to-date answer, yet may be it helps.

Part numbering of hatchback boot dampers has been described here.

Some time ago the part number and respective FINIS number were 7S71 A406A10-BB, FINIS 1553975.

It is possible that BB has been changed to BC or further by now, in which case the respective FINIS number will be completely different.

Oh, its those gas struts, :}

I guess new gas struts are required if you fit the optional 'shower gel holder' too :whistling:

Only if you leave the window open when you wash it! LOL :} :} :}
Slight hijack of topic - I'm thinking of having a spoiler fitted to my Titanium X Estate. Are uprated struts needed for the estate? Anyone got a price for supply, fitting, spraying of spoiler? I've had dealer quotes of about £300. Thanks
My estate, zetec sports spec had the spoiler fitted when bought and as its at the hinge end standard struts are fine. I guess the hatch has the spoiler fitted at the trailing edge so extra weight at furthest point from hinge requires uprated struts
Thanks for that. Yes, of course, that makes sense as the spoiler position is not really adding any extra leverage/weight to the tailgate.
Part of my list of things to do...more information:

Must admit the rear of the MK4 is slightly 'plain' without a spoiler, but a spoiler in balck is, well . . . Nice.
