Both Rear indicators not working

151 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Andrew-W
Hello

Both rear indicators have stopped working, bulbs okay, side and front are working fine and so are the hazard lights.

When I say they've stopped working they're both extremely dim and barely visible, if I stand very close I can see the filaments in the bulb illuminating but if I step back a few feet they're gone.

I've checked all of the fuses.

Any idea, thanks very much.?

As Stonekeeper says the earths and check the light boards for corrosion when the circuits on the board get corroded they gain a lot of resistance

Thank you both. 🙂

I'll have a look to see what I can find, it's the fact that both rear indicators stopped working which I thought was unusual.
Yeah, most unusual to have both go at the same time so must be something common to both circuits... 🤔
Helps if you've got a multimeter.... Are the other rear lights working fine?
Just checked in the Haynes manual I had for my MK3 and it shows a common earth for both rear indicators. If you want I can try and scan in the wiring diagram

Thanks for offering, I can have a look in mine to save you the bother.

I do have a multimeter. 🙂

Do you mean that all four hazzard lights are working or just the front ones?
Yes, everything working including all hazard lights, just the rear indicators that aren't working which makes me think it's the central timer unit at fault
