Brake lights constantly on

Hi everyone.

As you can see from the sig we have a TDCI, I have done a thorough search and found similar stories to this but no answers LOL

As stated above the brake lights are constantly on and the cruise control doesn't work anymore. The investigating I've done seems to suggest the brake pedal has either dropped 1/4 of an inch or a pad/shim whatever has fallen off it.
I know my Landy inside out n upside down but theres only two things I know about the Mondeo.....Nuthin n buggerall, any help would be appreciated.

there are 2 switches on the brake pedal 1 for the brake light 1 for the cruise control. take the padding off so you can see them.
the braket that holds the switches is pretty poor and there is movement in it when you press the clutch down. all that has happened is the bracket has bent and moved so the lights come on all the time.
take the 2 switches out and hammer the braket towards the pedal slightly. refit the switches and it will all be fine again. mine did it last summer and i did that and no problems since
hope this helps
Have you checked the switch behind the brake pedal That maybe stuck?

Hi Dezza, the bracket is fine, perfect right angle. The plastic push rod though has stripped its thread. Putting a nut on the back of it has helped but there is still a 1/4 inch gap. I have solved the problem by glueing in a piece of plastic to take up the gap.

Thanks Trucker Joe but the switch is not stuck.

There appears to be a sticky spot on the bracket does anyone know if there is/was something stuck there???
make sure you have the bulbs in the right way ,as i could not understand why my brakes lights would not come on, the reason was they were already on, i noticed that the lights seemed very bright ,when i re fitted them the right way the brake lights went of and worked fine
