What ho one and all,

Was at a local, very small station this morning, to watch the flying Scotsman roll by. All a bit of a let-down ans it is moving quite fast and the hoopla is there and gone in seconds.

However, the other side of the track is a breakers yard (one that they do not allow you to scramble around for parts) and they were dropping cars into the crusher.

So I occurs to me, what happens next? The crushed cars has the seating and dashboard in place, let alone a vast array of various metals, rubber and plastics, all squished into a cube. Probably shipped to China where they will not care about toxic fumes when cash is the driving force, but do all the various materials just get melted into one or do various metals/ materials 'float' at different levels and are skimmed off?
